We have a future

Since nine-thirty this morning, Europe’s best-selling association of small and mid-sized specialist retailers for building materials, wood and tiles has been looking with a clear vison to the future – a future in which all economic structures are changing.

This year’s general shareholder’s meeting of the industry leader is being held in Cologne’s Gürzenich, the “parlour” of the Rhenish carnival metropolis which will be familiar to many TV viewers from numerous meetings of Cologne’s “fifth season”. For EUROBAUSTOFF, the venue offers a dignified and architecturally distinctive setting for its shareholder’s meeting 2019.

The meeting was traditionally opened by Boy Meesenburg, the association’s supervisory board chairman, with the classic North German greeting “Moin!” which was said welcoming the 400 representatives of the 475 partner companies who had travelled to Cologne – more than 91 % of all partners who are entitled to vote. Similar to previous years, the morning was dominated by the association’s management. Jörg Hoffmann presented his detailed 2018 business report and a projection of the first quarter 2019. According to this, the centrally billed buying volume has increased by 9 %. Hartmut Möller discussed the building industry’s current situation, the work in the good’s sectors, reactions from the supply industry, the daily trial of strength of all participants and the resulting necessity of a strong specialist trade association. He also highlighted the consequences this will have for buying in the future and the impact on listed suppliers.

Dr. Eckard Kern, Chairman of Management, discussed the future of mid-sized specialist building retailers and presented opportunities offered to the EUROBAUSTOFF shareholders by the service campus. He named the integration of the Austrian BEZ/wood + co partners, the logistics project group, reorientation of the Infokom and the development of the B2X master clone, amongst others, as milestones of 2018. Overcoming the information barriers within the overall cooperation is seen as a permanent challenge. No site is structured the same and an appropriate service with a consistent quality is therefore expected.

After lunch, the young start-ups will give a presentation which, similar to previous years, will highlight the association’s activities from their perspective.
